My brother is always too cheap (or lazy) to put any thought into what someone might like as a Christmas gift....so one year he decided at the last minute to raid the hall closet and ended up wrapping up a bunch of stuff for gifts. I was given ear wax remover drops that were 20 years old and that had previously leaked out of the box staining it...sure made for a good laugh! It's become a running joke in our family that we never know what he'll give us next. That same Christmas he gave my sister a stuffed animal he found lying around in his room as she opened it she said, "but I gave you this for your birthday". LOL he didn't even realize!

I don't really remember us having any Christmas traditions when I was little but now that I have my own children, we have started buying Christmas jammies and wearing them on Christmas Eve. We read the story of Christ's birth in Luke and The Night Before Christmas. I'm excited to add more as our family grows!

My favorite memory is from one of the years we went to California for Christmas. My daughters were very concerned that Santa wouldn't know where we were to leave their presents so they left a letter for him taped to the fireplace. I snagged the letter on our way out the door and passed it on to "SANTA" in CA, who gave them the letter, and a wink, and told them not to worry. The look on their faces was beyond awesome!

Ashley, I love these, your characters are great! My kids love larry the cucumber and abby cadaby (however you spell it) But our favorite Christmas tradition is sleeping on the floor with our kids on Christmas Eve, we stay up reading stories and watching movies. It is really great!

My mother in law just started a new tradition for the family... this will be year two and I can't wait to see how it turns out. Here it is: On Christmas, each person gets some paper and and envelope. On one of the pieces of paper, you write down a goal for yourself for the coming year, put it in your envelope. Then, you write a prediction regarding each one of the siblings (and spouses) and parents and put it in their envelopes. You don't let them see the prediction. My mother in law keeps and seals the envelopes. So the next year, each sibling (with spouse) opens their envelope which contains their own goals and everyone's predictions about them.

A little bit complicated, but its our fun way of telling the future :) Its really fun!

About 10 years ago, my mom and dad started a new tradition in our family to go along with our traditional Christmas Eve movie before we anxiously await Sanata (not going to sleep ;) ). One Christmas Eve, they pulled out a stocking and six pieces of paper and pencils. They handed the paper and pencils out to each of us and then they read us a poem. I am not sure how it went, but the just of it was that Christ had given us the gift of His life, now what gift could we give back to Him? Every year we write down a gift we would like to give to Christ and we place it in a stalking just for him and we take out the ones from last year and read them aloud. :) It is so spiritual and really brings back the spirit of Christmas

My family saves our stocking until New Years. We did it when I was little cause we were so poor my parents couldn't do both. We do it now because it makes Christmas last longer, and makes for another special holiday for our family. Adam and I know do it with our family.

My favorite Christmas memory was when we were driving on the freeway in CA on Christmas night and my parents felt prompted to pull over and help someone who was stalled on the side of the road. When we stopped they said they had just barely finished saying a prayer that someone would stop and help - so we got to be the answer to their prayer!

My favorite memory was of my niece who was either 2 or 3 at the time, falling asleep under the tree with her arms wrapped tightly around a present. I put a bow on her head and took her picture. It was the sweetest thing I have ever seen.

instead of an advent calendar my mother would wrap up 23 Christmas stories and we would open one up every night leading up to Christmas. Then on Christmas Eve we would read the story of Christ birth. It was the best advent calendar ever!

One of my favorite memories is the year we spent most of Christmas Eve day helping to prepare the meal for the homeless and then that evening we went back and helped serve. I was young at the time but I remember it so well. When I think about all those people especially the family with the brand new baby coming in, it makes me so gratful for what I have. Another memory was the year we got bikes. I woke up in the middle of the night and had to go to the bathroom. You had to walk through the front room to get to the bathroom. I saw the bikes and thought it was Santa's reindeer so I hurried back to bed.

My favorite tradition is Christmas day my mom makes a turkey and we just snack all day long. Now Tyler and I don't really have any traditions yet except for the fact that we won't get out of bed until at least 9 o'clock on Christmas day. I love that tradition. We also buy a new oratemnts every year for our Christmas tree.

I love Christmas! Some of my favorite memories are: the year my brother was born at home on Christmas day (what can I say--I was four and the firetruck was awesome!); the year we all got rollerblades and spent the whole day outside thinking we were the best (aka falling on our bums!); and getting a new Christmas ornament for the tree every year. The tree was never matchy and perfect, but it was fun; now I give ornaments to my kiddos each year. My current favorite traditions with my little family are when we drive around the ritzy neighborhood on the hillside to see their lights then drink tons of hot chocolate and eat doughnuts til we pop; making our sugar cookies to share with friends; and watching the sheer joy of kids opening their gifts on Christmas morning--it's just magical!!

I love these...you are so talented. From the time I was little my mom would do a count down to Christmas with childrens Christmas books. She would wrap all of them and put them in a little slay in the corner and each night we got to unwrap one and she would read it to us before bedtime. I totally plan on doing that when Easton gets older.

We dont really have many traditions now a days. When my dad was alive he used to pick out one present for me and my sister to open on Christmas Eve. He used to pick up the biggest one and joke with us and then say "Nooo that one has to wait" and give us the smallest one he could find. I plan on carrying on that tradition with Payton and our future children to keep part of my dad alive [:

My favorite Christmas memory was on Christmas Eve and I had my parents, my grandparents and my Aunt & Uncle over for dinner - after dinner my kids opened their "yearly Christmas Eve Gift" - the pajamas and one additional gift between all of them that is always a game to play together for the night. The perfect thing was when my grandparent's opened their gifts from my Aunt & Uncle that night and they got new robes and slippers - It was so cute to see them in their "jammies" with my kids in theirs! Family Memories Make Life Worth Everything!

Every year on Christmas Eve our family gathers for a yummy feast of homemade sourdough pancakes made by my sweet Grandma. It is a tradition she started with her children and one we will keep going forever! After dinner our family reads the story of Christ's birth from the scriptures and plays out the manger scene. The biggest treat of the night is when my Grandpa reads a book called, "The Littlest Angel". It's a lovely night full of family, food, fun, carols, but most importantly gratitude for a very important little baby.

This is a Tradition that I am going to start.....
On Christmas Eve my husband or myself will write our son a letter summarizing the past year and how lucky we are to have him in our life. I'll place the letter in a decorated box that will be hung on the tree. I will make another box that I hope he will keep the past letters in. I hope that he will enjoy this tradition.

This Idea I got from

We never really had any traditions growing up, but I do remember the Christmas when I was 5 years old. We moved to Texas from Utah and my dad stayed behind to tie ends up. He was stuck in Utah for months. My mom told my sisters and I that he wasn't going to be able to make it for Christmas, but guess who made it made in time for Christmas?! I remember my sisters and I being so happy
